- NJ STATE LICENSURE UPDATE - June 2011
The AMTA New Jersey Chapter continues to monitor the progress of the New
Jersey Massage Licensure Rule Process.
In an effort to keep our membership well informed, we recently contacted Mr.
George J. Hebert, Executive Director of the New Jersey Board of Nursing, to
inquire about the current status of the Rules and Regulations process. The
following is his response:
"The regulations are going through the review process. They are currently
under review in the Division of Law. It may be several months before the
review process is complete, since the proposed regulations need to be
reviewed by the Director of the Division of Consumer Affairs' office, as well
as the Attorney General's office.
If individuals have applied for certification or have been certified by the
Massage Committee, their applications or certifications will be converted to
Massage Board applications or licenses, as appropriate. The usual fees
associated with certification/licensure will be required. The only
circumstance that would require repayment of any fees would be for those
applications that have been in the Board office for more than one year, since
they are considered abandoned after one year."
We continue to recommend that our members take these steps:
New Jersey State Certified Practitioners:
- Renew your State Certification to remain current and in good standing.
- If you are not currently State Certified and meet all necessary requirements,
apply NOW through the New Jersey Board of Nursing
- Make sure your Basic Life Support and First Aid Certification is current.
On the issue of State Licensure and the pending Licensure Rules: As soon
as this information becomes available, the AMTA NJ Chapter will notify all
practitioners, via email blasts, voice mail, website and Chapter Newsletter .
Licensure information will specifically apply to practitioners seeking State
Licensure through the future formal state licensure process, and also for all
practitioners utilizing the licensure Grandfathering options.
If you have any additional questions , please feel free to contact your AMTA NJ
Government Relations Committee.
Thank you,
Your AMTA NJ Chapter Board of Directors
Charlie Behm and Adrienne Asta,
Government Relations Committee Co-Chairs
Sally Hacking, AMTA NJ Chapter Legislative Consultant
